Date Added: 10 September 2004 I am pleased to report that my full-scale biography of Lovecraft, H. P. Lovecraft: A Life, is in the process of being reissued by Necronomicon Press. The reprint (paperback only) will be ready by around October 1, and Necronomicon Press (www.necropress.com) is already accepting advance orders. The edition will feature a new, four-colour cover by Jason Eckhardt along with a new afterword. Date Added: 6 April 2004 On March 20-25 I conducted a successful tour of West Coast cities to promote my edition of Lord Dunsany's In the Land of Time and Other Fantasy Tales (Penguin). I made several appearances in the Bay Area, where I met several colleagues both old and new-Scott Connors (whose transportational services were much appreciated), Ron Hilger, Alan Gullette, Don Herron, Mark Hall, Rob Preston, Lynn Willis of Chaosium, and others. I also did good research (mostly on George Sterling) at the Bancroft Library, whose librarians, Anthony Bliss and D. Steven Black, were most hospitable. On a brief visit to the Mysterious Galaxy bookstore in San Diego on March 24, I spent several entertaining hours with two knowledgeable weird fiction devotees, Martin C. Levergood II and Dan Ketelhut. Penguin promises to send me on another tour to promote my third volume of Lovecraft tales, The Dreams in the Witch House and Other Weird Stories, but the itinerary has not yet been set. For several years I have been a member of the Northwest Chorale (www.nwchorale.org), a choral group in Seattle. On May 7 and 8 we will be performing Mendelssohn's great oratorio, Elijah. I sing tenor in the group, while my wife anchors the soprano section. Last winter we performed Handel's Messiah, and the spring before that we performed Bach's B Minor Mass-an achievement that I regard as one of the greatest of my career, perhaps second only to the painting of the fence around our property in Seattle. On April 3 I gave an interview for a forthcoming DVD of Lovecraft-related films being assembled by Andrew Migliore, organiser of the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival. I am not certain of the release date of the DVD, but further information on it can be found at www.lurkerfilms.com. I was featured extensively in a documentary film on Lovecraft, The Eldritch Influence, directed by Shawn Owens and shown at the 2003 Film Festival. On April 5 I gave a radio interview on H. L. Mencken on WFMU radio in New York City. For further information, see www.wfmu.org/playlists/SE (hit the link for April 5). - S. T. Joshi |
